Elmhurst native Dr. Bijoy Abraham understood exactly how important feet are at a very young age. Growing up, he had his own feet injuries and watched those around him suffer from foot conditions. His appreciation for the feet and the influence that his family had on him by being in the medical field made choosing medicine a logical choice. As a result of his understanding of the importance of our feet, he chose to specialize in podiatry.
Dr. Abraham earned his medical degree from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in 2016. During this time, he completed his Podiatric residency at Presence Saint Joseph Hospital PMSR/RRA Podiatric Residency Program, where he excelled and stood out from his peers for his clinical and leadership skills, being named Resident Team Leader from 2013-2015 and Chief Resident from 2015-2016.
Being a podiatrist is rewarding for Dr. Abraham because he thoroughly enjoys seeing patients from all backgrounds and with all types of injuries and conditions. As a result of his personal experience with foot injuries, Dr. Abraham offers a unique perspective and great empathy when he treats his patients. Understanding his patients from their perspective allows him to develop treatment plans that are truly individualized to each unique patient and their unique circumstances and concerns.
At Elmhurst Orthopaedics, Dr. Abraham’s patient philosophy involves treating every patient like family. He believes in taking a conservative approach to treatment for all of his patients. Before deciding upon surgery, Dr. Abraham explores all of the options available to each individual and stays open to new approaches. By treating his patients like family and developing solid relationships with them, he is able to get better outcomes for his patients.
In his personal time, Dr. Abraham enjoys spending time with his family, and he is a huge fan of hockey, basketball, and football. He is truly excited to settle down and grow his family and life here in Elmhurst.
